August 4, 2020 - TORONTO, Canada / SHANGHAI, China – S-Media’s Ski Television (SkiTV), which achieved unprecedented exposure with over 108 million viewers globally in 2019, is pleased to announce the renewal of their Chinese distribution partnership with Tencent, the number one online video platform in China with over 200 million daily active users.

Starting in Fall 2020, SkiTV will be airing Chinese and Global ski content on Tencent Sport’s video platform as well as on 腾讯冰雪 (Tencent Snow), Tencent’s website dedicated to winter sports.  With the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing fast approaching, Tencent and S-Media are also exploring new winter sport production projects for 2021.

The introduction of new winter sport content into the Chinese marketplace, combined with the ability for program partners to associate their brand with advertising around the content, and integrate into the content itself, provides a unique platform for both established Chinese companies and those companies breaking into the market, to be associated with winter sport.

Radley Mackenzie, CEO of Sino Sports, S-Media’s in market partner, commented: “Despite the global circumstances that have affected everyone, all signs point to the fact that there is still a growing appetite for all things winter sports in China, and we are pleased to be part of this growing movement."

To back this point, it was announced recently that Yum China Holdings, which includes brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, have come on board as the newest sponsor of the Beijing 2022 Olympics.

“We entered the Chinese marketplace in 2018, just as the ski industry was starting to surge”, said S-Media Managing Partner, Mark Kristofic.  “Despite a severely shortened ski season, we see the excitement from the resorts to be open and operating again this fall. You don’t need to look further than the enthusiasm around some of the indoor resorts currently open and operating”

“It is incredible to see so much love for snow and snowsports, especially here where it is a new and exciting experience”, said Roger Chang, Operation Director of the Guangzhou Sunac Snow Park in Southern China. “The Chinese people are falling in love with skiing and snowboarding”.
